Rufus, la grandiosa agrupación de synth pop australiano nos deleita con nuevo sencillo el cual lleva por nombre “Take Me” que se desprende de su album debut, próximo a lanzarse en Abril bajo Sweat It Out para este sencillo utilizaron un completo arsenal de nuevas “armas” como sintetizadores de todo tipo, ademas de emplear instrumentos análogos, que dan como resultado un track fresco con mucha energía y sobre todo mucha euforia típicas de un buen summer hit. Ademas de eso incluye varias sorpresas, como lo es el espectacular remix de Cassian, el afamado productor de disco sin olvidar claro el remix de Adaptordie que es el nuevo proyecto de Tony Mitolo y Alex Gooden ex integrantes de la legendaria banda de The Swiss, que nos asombran con semejante remix repleto de muy buenas vibras.

Harvard Bass es un joven productor/Dj de descendencia mexicana que poco a poco se ha convertido en una figura verdaderamente influyente en la música electrónica, adoptando un sonido que ha ido perfeccionando con el paso del tiempo. Hace algunos años salto a la fama por un grandioso hit titulado “Caked” el cual logró sorprender a artistas como Crookers, Congorock, Sound Of Stereo, A-trak, Tekilatex, Diplo y muchos más. Después con diversos remixes a artistas como Acid Girls, Drop The Lime, The Count & Sinden y Beni logro cautivar a mucha más gente que hasta la fecha no la perdido la pista. Ahora tenemos el honor de presentarles una charla exclusiva que tuvimos con este carismático productor donde nos habla un poco de toda su historia y por supuesto de su futuro:

1.- First, tell us about Harvard Bass, who is behind?
It is just me. Victor

2.- Why you choose the “Harvard Bass” name?
I wanted to educate people with my music so i came up with an interesting concept and stuck with it.

3.- What are your influences?
Pretty much everyone who is doing something innovative & fresh. Its funny but my major influence is hip hop music. I love how hip hop production is so simple but remains real effective so i refrence a lot from hip hop.

4.- How do you start to produce music? And when?
i really wanted to learn how to so I began read a lot of books. I was very eager to learn. This was all about 5 years ago i think? i used to produce hip hop when i was 17 so it kind of paved the way to what i make now.

5.- How you can describe the Harvard Bass music?
if i could descirbe it i think the closest would be something like Simple effective and raw.

6.- From your first EP to the newest track on Twin Turbo, Do you feel a music “Evolution”?
yes most certainly. my sound has evolved. it’s only natural. time changes we change but i think my style is still there.

7.-About your newest record label “Bump City Records” what we can expect from this? What artists are already signed?
Bump City Records is going to be a label for fresh new up & coming House / Techno artist. goin to keep it real and raw. theres a couple of artist signed that i wont announce until early 2013

8.- What producers do you think are making cool music right now?
Pilo, Sanfuentes, Daniel Maloso, Audionite

9.- We know about your mexican roots, do you know something about the electronic music scene in Mexico and Latin america?
Yes! My parents are both from mexico. I was raised in Tijuana for a few years until i moved to San Diego. My first DJ gigs as an artist was in Tijuana too! What I have noticed is that everyone in Mexico is highly educated when it comes to house & techno. I think the dance music scene in Mexico is also responsible for what i make today.

10.- what’s the next to Harvard Bass?
I just finished a remix for Noob which will be out soon on Badlife & also a remix for Proxy which will be out on Turbo late november.
I am also finishing up another EP for Relief Records & getting everything situated for Bump City Records

11.- To finish, when you come back to Mexico City? And something you can say to your mexican followers (btw are many)

Solo yo, Victor.

2 -. ¿Por qué elegiste el nombre de “Harvard Bass”?
Quería educar a la gente con mi música, así que se me ocurrió una idea interesante y me quede con ella.

3 -. ¿Cuáles son tus influencias?
Todo el mundo que está haciendo algo innovador y fresco. Mi influencia principal es la música hip hop, es gracioso. Me encanta cómo la producción de hip hop es tan simple, pero sigue siendo realmente efectiva, así que tome como referencia mucho de este género.

4 -. ¿Cómo empiezas a producir música? ¿Y cuándo?
Tenía muchas ganas de aprender cómo así que empecé a leer un montón de libros. Estaba muy ansioso por aprender. Todo esto fue hace unos 5 años creo Empece a producir hip hop cuando tenía 17 años así me fui preparando el terreno para lo que hago ahora.

5 -. ¿Cómo se puede describir la música Harvard Bass?
si pudiera describirla, creo que lo más cercano sería algo así como: simple, fuerte y eficaz .

6 -. Desde tu primer EP hasta tu nuevo track en Twin Turbo, ¿sientes una “Evolución músical”?
sí con toda seguridad. mi sonido ha evolucionado. es natural. Podemos cambiar, el tiempo cambia las cosas, pero creo que mi estilo está todavía allí.

7.-Acerca de tu nuevo sello “Bump City Records” que podemos esperar? ¿Qué artistas están firmados?
Bump City Records va a ser una disquera para material fresco y nuevo, artistas que hacen House / Techno lo harán real y muy fuerte. Hay un par de artistas firmados, que no voy a anunciar hasta principios de 2013

8 -. ¿Que productores crees que están haciendo buena música en este momento?
Pilo, Sanfuentes, Daniel Maloso, Audionite

9 -. Sabemos acerca de tus raíces mexicanas, ¿sabes algo sobre la escena de la música electrónica en México y América Latina?
¡Sí! Mis padres son ambos de México. Me crié en Tijuana durante unos años hasta que me mudé a San Diego. Mis primeros sets como DJ fueron en Tijuana también! Lo que he notado es que todos en México son altamente educados a la influencia del house y techno. Creo que la escena de la música “dance” en México también es responsable de lo que hago hoy.

10 -. ¿Qué sigue para Harvard Bass?
Acabo de terminar un remix para Noob que saldrá pronto en Badlife y también un remix de Proxy que saldrá a la venta a finales de noviembre en Turbo.
También estoy terminando otro EP para Relief Records y afinando todo lo que se necesita para Bump City Records

11 -. Para terminar, cuando regresas a la ciudad de México? Y algo que le puedas decir a tus seguidores mexicanos (por cierto son muchos)

Da Funky Interview #16: Motorik! Records

Ya hemos tenido anteriormente la oportunidad de presentar y hablarles un poco acerca de esta nueva y prometedora familia de productores, siendo así conformada por Light Year, Jensen Interceptor, CSMNT61, The Finger Prince (y otros más) que hacen de esto una casa productora llena de talentos, nuevas promesas y un hogar para los amantes del buen Techno. En ésta ocasión en Da Funky Beat tenemos el honor de presentarles una entrevista exclusiva acerca del pasado, el presente y el futuro de la joven familia australiana del Techno:

First, which is the origin of the name “Motorik!”?

We were putting together the first party, when it was just Andrew and Vi in a dark cave trying to get their heads around how to make people in Sydney come to a technoparty, when Andrew’s brother Pat (Andrew and Pat are, incidentally, CSMNT61) came up with the name. Techno owes a deep debt to the german motorik/krautrock movement, and it just felt right to tip our hat accordingly.

When did you realize that Motorik! was a family?

Way before Motorik!, we were a family – with Bang Gang, most of us were releasing together on the label, or partying together (mostly partying, in Vi’s case, and mostly releasing records, in the case of CSMNT61). Gus (The Finger Prince) ran Bang Gang, and Mikey (Jensen Interceptor) was formerly half of Light Year, who released a number of major records on the label, too. We all got together when the Bang Gang thing ran its course, and discovered that we were, after a few years chasing divergent paths, on the same track to techno enlightenment. First, of course, it was CSMNT61 and Vivi, and then, our cosmic shaman figurehead Angus brought The Finger Prince (feat. Frank Xavier, also of tribal-progressive titans infusion), and, somehow, based on a shared love of high fashion and low humor, Jensen came into the fold at a casual friday meeting. We managed to get Jordan (the remaining half of Light Year) high and got him to sign a contact under duress, and thus the family motorik was born.

Which was the beginning of this (Motorik!) as a Label?

Well, we were a few parties deep, and, as mentioned, Gus was winding down Bang Gang, and we all had records we wanted to put out. We all got spiritual around a campfire, a little emotional, and decided that we were going to be blood brothers, united by the burden of funding a label that will probably never ever make any money. In other words, we hijacked Gus’s experience, and combined it with our raw, god-given talent for producing smash hits, and thus the label Motorik! was born.

Which were your influences to start up this project?

We’ve always been hugely influenced by MDMA. Other notable influences include Patron, Tiga, Patrick Santamaria’s beaten and scratched wu-tang cds, and also club smashes by renowned techno megastars like Michael Mayer (and the Kompakt sound of cologne), Matias Aguayo (and comeme), along with legendary italian footballer, Green Velvet. Ultimately, we like small rooms, big sound systems and smoke machines. These are our tools, and with them, we guide the world into the light (or dark).

We know that all of you never rest, so, what’s happening right now with in Motorik!?

All of us are busy writing EPs, CSMNT61 have a collab with Jensen Interceptor nearly ready, Jensen has collabs with nearly every artist on earth ready to go (including Mikron, Eskimo Twins, The Finger Prince etc). The Finger Prince has 2 vinyl only (for the time being) releases nearly ready to go, with remixes by total legends like Vakula, Hrdvsion, Hiem and Rework on the plate. Most excitingly, our first record from long-time party consultants Wordlife is ready to go – it’s called Vision. It’s huge. We think you should buy it, so we can buy them beers.

Just wondering, what kind of music do you like to hear in the Motorik! headquarter?

Mostly it’s the sound of us arguing over what we should play in the car (as many of our meetings happen in cars or in aeroplanes, on the way to gigs) but the new presets album is pretty amazing, and often Andrew will attempt to slip in some sort of guitar music, as is his wont. Caribou is always a big vibe, and the new Ricardo Villalobos is just like being back in 2002.

What we can expect from you in the future?

Stone cold hits, fun with techno, more money spent and lost (thanks, internet pirates – we love you!), but, ultimately, a metric fuckload of fun with techno.

What do you think about the actual electronic music scene?

We prefer to refer to hunter S. Thompson: “The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There’s also a negative side.”

Do you know something about the electronic music scene in Latin America?

Aguayo. All that comeme stuff. Villalobos. Luciano and Cadenza. Surtek Collective. Dinky. Pretty much all the shit we vibe on… we love it. must be the drugs. you guys rule!

And to finish, when you come to play and visit Mexico City? Also, something you want to say to your followers?

We’re here. We’re ready. Our bags are packed. If you’ve got the touring agent that will buy our airfares, we’ll come over and play your nightclubs, your afterparties, your airports, your radio stations, we’ll even play your ipod docks if you want. Let’s do it.

…and to our MEXICAN MOTORIK MASSIVE we say a biiig “que tal?! Esperamos que ya mismo nos vemos aya en Mexico!! ADIOS.”

01 -. Primero, cual es el origen del nombre “Motorik!”?

Estábamos preparando la primera fiesta, cuando sólo era Andrew y Vi en una oscura cueva tratando de poner sus ideas en torno a cómo hacer que la gente en sydney  fuera a una fiesta de Techno, cuando Pat el hermano de Andrew (Andrew y Pat son, por cierto son csmnt61) se le ocurrió el nombre. El  techno debe una gran deuda con el movimiento alemán Motorik / krautrock, y que sólo se sentía bien para inclinar nuestro sombrero en consecuencia.

02 -. Cuándo te diste cuenta de que Motorik! Era una familia?

 mucho antes de Motorik, éramos ya una familia, con  gang bang, la mayoría de nosotros estábamos sacando material en esta disquera o de fiesta juntos (sobre todo de fiesta, en el caso de  Vi, y sacando material en el caso de csmnt61). Gus (The Finger Prince) estuvó en  gangbang, y Mikey (Jensen Interceptor) era antes mitad de Light Year, que lanzó una serie de Ep’s importantes en la disquera, también.  Nos reunimos todos cuando  gang bang siguió su curso, y descubrimos que estábamos después de unos años persiguiendo caminos divergentes, en la misma línea del techno. primero, por supuesto, era csmnt61 y vivi, y entonces, nuestro chamán cósmico  figurehead angus llevó a The Finger Prince (feat. frank xavier,que es de los titanes de la infusión del tribal progressive), y, de alguna manera, sobre la base de un amor compartido de la alta costura y el humor bajo, Jensen entró en el grupo en una reunión informal de viernes. Nos las arreglamos para conseguir Jordan (la otra mitad de Light Year)  que firmaría un contacto bajo presión, por lo que la familia Motorik nació.

03 -. ¿Cuál fue el comienzo de Motorik! como una disquera?

Bueno, estábamos en fiestas profundas, y, como se mencionó, Gus estaba dirigiendo a su gang bang, y todos tenían antecedentes que queríamos poner fuera. Nos reunimos alrededor de una fogata, un poco emocional, y decidimos que nos íbamos a ser hermanos de sangre, unidos por la fundación de una disquera que probablemente nunca jamás va a hacer dinero. En otras palabras, tomamos la experiencia de Gus, y lo combinamos con nuestro talento, talento dado por Dios para la producción de grandes éxitos, por lo tanto Motorik nació.

 

04 -. ¿Cuáles fueron sus influencias para poner en marcha este proyecto?

siempre hemos sido enormemente influenciados por el MDMA. otras influencias notables incluyen a Patrón, Tiga, Patrick Santamaria ha escuchado y tocado cd’s de wu-tang , y también rompe clubes de renombre con mega estrellas del techno como Michael Mayer (y el sonido de kompakt ), Matias Aguayo (y Cómeme), junto con el  legendario futbolista italiano , Green Velvet. En última instancia, nos gustan las habitaciones pequeñas, sistemas de sonido y grandes máquinas de humo. estas son nuestras herramientas, y con ellos, guiaremos al mundo de la luz (o la oscuridad).

 

05 -. Sabemos que no tienen mucho descanzo, así que, ¿qué está sucediendo en este momento con Motorik?

todos nosotros estamos ocupados produciendo EPs, csmnt61 tiene una colaboración con Jensen Interceptor casi lista, jensen tiene colaboraciones con casi todos los artistas en la tierra (incluyendo mikron, Eskimo Twins, The Finger Prince etc).  The Finger Prince tiene dos viniles solamente (por el momento) casi listos para salir, con remixes de leyendas totales como Vakula, Hrdvsion, Hiem y retrabajo en el plato. más emocionante ,el primer release de nuestros consultores de hace mucho tiempo Wordlife está listo para salir – se llama Visión. es enorme. creemos que  deben comprarlo, así les podemos comprar cervezas.

06 -. Nos preguntamos, ¿qué tipo de música les gusta escuchar en el HDQTR de Motorik!?

todo es el sonido es de nosotros discutiendo sobre lo que debemos poner en el coche (como muchos de nuestros encuentros suceden en los coches o en los aviones, en el camino a los conciertos), pero el nuevo álbum de The presets  es bastante sorprendente, y a menudo andrew intentará poner  una especie de música de guitarra, como es su costumbre. caribou es siempre un gran ambiente, y el nuevo reléase de ricardo villalobos es como estar de nuevo en 2002.

 

 

07 -. ¿Qué podemos esperar de ustedes en el futuro?

Hits imparables, diversión con el techno, más dinero gastado y perdido (gracias a Internet,y sobre todo los piratas – We Love You), pero, en última instancia, un chingo (sic) de diversión con el techno.

 

08 -. ¿Qué piensan acerca de la escena de la música electrónica actual?

preferimos citar a Hunter s. Thompson:

        • “El negocio de la música es una trinchera de dinero cruel y con poca profundidad, un largo pasillo  plástico donde ladrones y proxenetas corren libre, y los hombres buenos mueren como perros. Hay también un lado negativo”.

 

09 -. ¿Sabes algo sobre la escena de la música electrónica en América Latina?

Matias Aguayo. todas esas cosas de Cómeme. Ricardo villalobos. Luciano y Cadenza. Surtek collective, Dinky, prácticamente toda la mierda que vibra en … nos encanta. deben ser las drogas. ustedes hacen buen trabajo!

10 -. Y para terminar, cuando vendrán a tocar y  visitar la ciudad de México? También, algo que quieran decir a tus seguidores?

estamos aquí. estamos listos. nuestras bolsas están llenas. si tienes el agente de turismo que va a comprar nuestros billetes de avión, vamos a venir a tocar en sus clubes nocturnos, sus afterparties, sus aeropuertos, en sus estaciones de radio, incluso tocamos con  ipod si quieres. vamos a hacerlo.

Da Funky Interview #12: His Majesty Andre

His Majesty Andre es un productor de origen italiano, que en 2008 logró superar expectativas y se convirtió fácilmente en uno de los artistas favoritos de la escena de la música electrónica en Europa, aunque no lanza material nuevo muy a menudo, simplemente considero que es un verdadero talento y un verdadero ícono para la escena actual, con grandes hits como “Peep Tong”, “NRG 555″, “Spades” y su más reciente “Untitled Vynil” seguramente los ha puesto a bailar más de una vez ya que su música es tocada en Dj sets de artistas como Armand Van Helden, Crookers, Congorock, Don Rimini, Andy George, Boys Noize, Hervé, Diplo, The Bloody Beetroots y muchos más.
Ahora es todo un placer tenerlo como invitado en una de nuestra ya clásicas Da Funky Interview:

First, tell us a little bit about who is His Majesty Andre, who is behind?

Just me, Andre! At the end of the day I’m just a guy who loves music.

When did you start to produce music?

I started when I was 14/15 years old, but at the time I did some very crappy stuff as technology wasn’t so affordable as today and my only way to learn was just testing randomly the behavior of my equipment.

What are your influences?

I’ve listened to a lot of seventies music and house stuff in the beginning. Then the need for new sounds came naturally and I started with other genres. As you may notice, my roots lie between disco, funk and house.

What motivates you to involve into Disco/Nu-disco?

I never felt being a disco producer actually. I feel more being a producer who loves to sample from the good ol’disco tunes but does basically what he feels to. If you listen to a proper disco track and one of mine, you will notice something is different.

About your newest track “Cargobum” on Fools Gold, how do you feel with this release?

Cargobum is the track you can imagine after the phrase I said before “does basically what he feels to”. It’s nothing you would expect from me and I’m very proud of it. I did it with Elisa Bee, a very talented DJ already known for her “Crazy sisters” bootleg of my “Dry tool”. We wanted to do something really crazy and fun, something to jump on really hard and have your minutes of frenziness.

What do you prefer between play dj sets or produce music?

Well, both of them have their own magic moments: playing in front of a crowd makes you feel on top of the world and sharing something you wouldn’t be able to share in other ways. Studio moments are pretty intimate but when you find the groove, the hook or even build the right drum you can already feel that thrill that tells you’re very lucky to run this kind of life.

What do you think about the actual electronic music scene?

There’s a bit of chaos as different genres are blending together, new ones are coming out and part of them are hitting the radios like pop music. As a thrilling moment to live, it can be a bit stressing. Internet is an important ground where most of this world grow up in the first place. Lot of things happen but we should keep our eyes —and ears— open as the web is able to distort reality sometimes or even swallowing cool things down.

What´s next to His Majesty Andre in this year?

Prepare for new tracks —mostly unexpected ones!— and a bunch of remixes including one for the video-game Tekken Tag Tournament 3 and Stictly rhythm.

And to finish, when you come to play and visit Mexico City?, Also something you want to say to your followers?

¿Cuándo te iniciaste en la producción musical ?
Empecé cuando tenía 14 años / 15 años de edad, en su tiempo hice algunas cosas bastante mal la tecnología aún no era tan avanzada, hasta hoy, mi única forma de aprender solo fue hacer pruebas al azar de mi equipo.

¿Cuáles son tus influencias?
He escuchado un montón de música, cosas de la década de los setenta, y house al principio. Entonces la necesidad de nuevos sonidos se dio naturalmente, empecé con otras cosas. Como se puede notar mis raíces se unen entre disco, funk y house.

¿Qué te motiva a participar dentro el Disco / Nu-disco?
Nunca me sentí productor de música disco en realidad. Me siento más un productor a quien le encanta hacer samplers de canciones de la buena música disco, hago básicamente lo que siento a la hora . Si ustedes escuchan una pista de disco y uno de los míos, Van a notar algo es diferente.

Acerca de tu más reciente track “Cargobum” firmado bajo Fools Gold, ¿cómo te sientes con esto?
Cargobum es la pista de lo que se puede imaginar después de la frase que dije antes “hago básicamente lo que se siente a la hora”. No es nada que puedas esperar de mí y estoy muy orgulloso de ello. Lo hice con Elisa Bee, una DJ con mucho talento ya conocido por su bootleg “Crazy sisters” de mi sencillo “Dry Tool”. Queríamos hacer algo realmente loco y divertido, algo realmente para saltar y tener frenesí .

¿Qué prefieres entre sesiones de DJ reproducir música o producir?
Pues bien, cada uno tiene sus momentos mágicos propios: mezclar frente a una multitud te hace sentir en la cima del mundo y compartir algo que no sería capaz de pasar en otras formas. Los tiempos de estudio son muy íntimos, cuando se encuentra el Groove , el hook o incluso construir el ritmo, se puede sentir esa emoción que te dice que tienes mucha suerte para estar en este tipo de vida.

Por desgracia, no estoy tan actualizado en ese lado, además de que nunca he estado allí … esperemos que sea pronto! Quiero saber más!

¿Qué piensa acerca de la escena de la música electrónica actual?
Hay un poco de caos en los diferentes géneros están mezclando entre sí, los nuevos están saliendo y parte de ellos están golpeando la radio como música pop. Tienen un tiempo emocionante para vivir, después puede ser un poco estresante. Internet es un importante terreno donde este mundo crece en primer lugar. Muchas cosas suceden pero debemos de mantener los ojos y los oídos abiertos, como la web es capaz de distorsionar la realidad e incluso para calentar o enfriar el ambiente.

¿Qué sigue para His Majesty Andre en este año?

Cuando hablamos de nuevos talentos, de propuestas sólidas en 2012, de jovenes con verdadero futuro en la música electrónica, tendriamos que mencionar forzosamente a Andrea Cipria o mejor conocido como Stereocool, un músico y productor italiano que hace desde hace unos meses nos tiene asombrados con su música, siendo una perfecta combinación de sonidos “retro” inspirados en el disco, el funk, el house, el french house y muchos sonidos que van más allá de lo convencional, obviamente uno de sus hits es “Simple” reciente lanzado por el sello Hello Shitty Records. Ahora tenemos el gran honor de presentarles una pequeña entrevista que tuvimos la oportunidad de realizar, además de un chart exclusivo con las mejores recomendaciones que nos hizo este gran artista:

what about stereocool, who is behind this project?
-Stereocool a one-man producer, musician and songwriter, so mostly i’m alone, in my room, making music. Occasionally i like to collaborate with talented but (most important) passionate people that love music like me. And yes, i’m open to collaborations.

what are your influences?
-I was born with an Earth, Wind & Fire album in my hands, and my father playing Debussy in the living room. My influences gradually expanded, and now i let every kind of music influence me, as this is the best way to be always new, while remaining yourself.
I think that a mediocre artist is always equal to himself.

when you start producing music?
- I started in the far 2005, when i was 14. Twiddlin’ and fiddlin’ with Acid Pro. Those were great times. I was in the hip-hop vein, and i still have that. It’s great thinking about the things you make in only 7 years.

if you weren´t producer what would you like to do?
-A physicist. I love Physics, it’s the discipline of the geniuses.
I also tried studying it in our university here in Catania, but “the calling” was too strong, and i left.
Physics is still one of my great passions, though.

About your single called “Simple” what do you feel with so many plays on soundcloud, and so much support around the world?
I’m super-happy with it. It’s funny thinking about “It Looked So Simple”, that is the starting point which everything started from, but i worked A LOT on “Simple” and i guess this is the right reward. I love the fact that people like it, that makes me feel good like a sunny day.
And i adore sunny days.

What’s next in this year for you? Some new ep’s, singles?
I’ve got 2 singles in Bliss Records compilation and PB&J compilation, two songs that i like but i kept always on the computer. I guess it was the right time to let them go!
For the other news, clearly lots of remixes are coming.
And yes, i’m preparing original material.

Can you give us a monthly chart?
This one is the only listenable copy i found on the Internets. Very chilly, sounds commercial but it’s really original and fresh. Love it!

¿ Que hay con stereocool, quién está detrás de este proyecto?-

Stereocool es un solo hombre, productor, músico y compositor, por lo que en su mayoría estoy solo en mi habitación, haciendo música. De vez en cuando me gusta colaborar con gente con talento, pero (más importante) apasionados que aman la música como yo. Y sí, estoy abierto a colaboraciones.


¿Cuáles son tus influencias?

-Yo nací con un álbum de Earth, Wind & Fire en mis manos, y mi padre tocando Debussy en la sala. Mis influencias se han ido ampliando, y ahora dejo que todo tipo de música me influya, ya que esta es la mejor manera de ser siempre nuevo, y al mismo tiempo que quedan tus bases. Creo que un artista mediocre siempre es igual a sí mismo.


Cuando te inicias en la producción de música?

– Empecé en el lejano 2005, cuando tenía 14 años. Twiddlin ‘y Fiddlin’ con Acid Pro. Aquellos fueron buenos tiempos. Yo estaba en la onda del hip-hop, y todavía tengo eso. Es grandioso sobre las cosas que hacen en sólo 7 años.


Si no fueras productor ¿qué te gustaría hacer?

-Un físico. Me encanta la Física, es la disciplina de los genios. También traté de estudiar la universidad aquí en Catania, pero “la llamada” era demasiado fuerte, y me fui. sin embargo la Física sigue siendo uno de mis grandes pasiones,.


Acerca de tu sencillo llamado “Simple” ¿qué sientes con tantas reproducciones en SoundCloud, y el apoyo tanto de todo el mundo?

Estoy super contento con él. Es gracioso pensar “Se veía tan simple”, que es el punto de partida, en el que todo comenzó, pero trabajé mucho en “simple” y supongo que esta es la recompensa adecuada. Me encanta el hecho de que la gente le gusta, que le hace sentir bien, como un día soleado. y adoro los días soleados.

¿Qué sigue en este año para tí? Algunos ep’s nuevos, sencillos?

Tengo 2 sencillos en la dicha compilación de Bliss Records y la compilación de PB & J, dos canciones que me gustan pero las mantuve siempre en la computadora. Supongo que era el momento adecuado para que se vayan! Para la otra noticia, esta claro que un montón de remixes están llegando. Y sí, estoy preparando material original.

Da Funky Interview #10: Freak You (On The Fruit Records)

Desde hace un par de años, durante una expedición al extenso mundo de Soundcloud, encontré a On The Fruit Records una disquera que desde el primer momento me impacto por su gran calidad, y su amplio catalogo de buenos artistas. Conforme el paso del tiempo esta disquera ha ido creciendo poco a poco, logrando tener a propuestas sólidas de la música electrónica: Pat Lok el joven canadiense que sorprendió a la escena del french house en 2011, Audionite el productor alemán tomo por sorpresa con su fino techno, The Phantom’s Revenge, Figure Of 8, The FHC, LBCK entre muchos más.
Ahora para celebrar nuestro aniversario, tuvimos la gran oportunidad de entrevistar su líder y fundador: Franck mejor conocido como Freak You, este joven francés se ha encargado de llevar a esta disquera a donde esta, buscando dentro del inmenso universo del internet, sorprendiéndonos la mayoría de las veces con música de primera calidad, es por eso que no le perderemos la pista nunca, chequen esta entrevista:

1.-First, Tell us about who is behind Freak You?

hey ! So behind Freak You is my own project which i didn’t give much importance so far as i put my priority on other onthefruit artists, but in a few, i might developp this project, i got this possibility and it would be a shame to not do it.

2.- What are your influences?

younger and many years ago i made really different music with other aliases, i even had my big moment on the electro scene, but it was really IDM, like that whole generation of “i’m trying to make music like Aphex Twin” when I hear now it’s scary ;D ! So my influences since Freak You might be most of all, Vitalic, DFP, some Vulture succes, abviously 80s greatness and recently i can say that Oliver killed me, they’re AMAZING !

3.- What motivates you to involve into the disco/nu disco music?

that part is funny because when i started OTF i’ve just decided the music i would like to release a bit randomly, and it ended as something nu-disco-ish, i don’t have any criteria, i just pick what i like, that’s prob why sometimes we release techno, IDM or even minimal, there are a few EP on the label, and I know they’re not the ‘top sellers’ but i would hate to be labeled and trapped in one genre.

4.- When and why you start the “On The Fruit Records” label?

well like any label i guess, without any expectations, with some drinks and friends four years ago.

why ? because i’ve released lot of things before, I wanted to grow up a bit, a new fresh start, at first this label was made for me and few friends.

5.-How it’s the process to enter into the On The Fruit rooster?

it’s complicated, not meaning it’s impossible cause we’re such arrogant people, but we’re trying to keep it as a familly, and the rooster is already quite big to me, i guess, on a good day, with a top notch demo and an apropiate period it can be possible.

Even if we receive lot of demos, i always reply to any of them, that’s something important to me, of course not talking about spams haha

6.-If you weren´t producer or label manager what would you like to do?

i can’t even think of living my life without any music, it’s like having one legg left.

8.- What artists do you think are making cool music right now?

As i can’t always mention OTF artists, i’ll would say, Gigamesh, Goldroom, DFP, Mylo, A.N.D.Y and Attar! (both ex Mustang), Sare Havlicek, Sebastien Tellier, Discotexas team … plus many other I forget right now

9.- Do you know some artists or producers from Latin America?

unfortunately not so much but I sure they’re many amazing ones, it’s the internet jungle and difficult to be aware of everything, lets say my good friend Kamei :)

10.-What’s next to Freak You in this year? And what we can expect from On The Fruit Records?

beside some upcoming remixes from time to time an album is on the way, with some great featurings, crossed fingers to finish this soon :)

11.-And well something you can say to our followers, or something you can say about our blog?

first of all thank you, i know you’re a good supporters of our music and it’s so cool to have feedbacks and people who cares. we put so much effort of what we do that any words are so refreshing to us, people should not forget this, all artists needs feedbacks and supports, when you like something say it, even if you don’t like it, but please SAY IT ! we’re close to loose this on internet, so keep the sincerity and direct contact, it’s not because a bunch of big names have ingnored you once that everybody will.

1.-En primer lugar,cuentanos quien esta detrás de Freak You?
Hey! Freak You es un proyecto propio, que no me da mucha importancia a la medida en que puedo poner mi prioridad en artistas de on the fruit. En algunos tiempo, yo podría desarollar este proyecto, tengo esta posibilidad y sería una lástima no hacerlo.


2 -. ¿Cuáles son tus influencias?
Más joven y hace muchos años hice música muy diferente, con otros alias, incluso tuve mi gran momento en la escena electro, pero en realidad era IDM, como la generación de “Estoy tratando de hacer música como Aphex Twin” cuando lo escucho ahora me da miedo ;D . Así que mis influencias en Freak You puede ser más que nada, Vitalic, DFP, algunas éxitos de Buitre, obvio la grandeza de los años 80 y por lo que puedo decir que Oliver me mató, son increíbles!


3 -. ¿Qué te motiva a participar en la música disco / Nu Disco?
Esa parte es curiosa, porque cuando empecé OTF me acaba de decidir la música que me gustaría liberar un poco al azar, y terminó como algo nu-disco-ish, no tengo ningún criterio, sólo escoger lo que me gusta , eso es problema por qué a veces soltamos el techno, IDM o mínimal, incluso, hay un EP de unos pocos en la disquera, y yo sé que no son los ‘más vendidos’, pero no me gustaría estar etiquetados y atrapado en un género.

4 -. Cuándo y por qué se inicia “On The Fruit Records” ?
Así como cualquier disquera, supongo, sin ningún tipo de expectativas, con algunas bebidas y amigos hace cuatro años. ¿Por qué? porque he lanzado muchas cosas antes, quería crecer un poco, un nuevo comienzo, en un primer momento esta disquera fue hecha para mí y pocos amigos.
5.-Cómo es el proceso para entrar en el rooster de On The Fruit Records?
Es complicado, no significa que sea imposible, sino que la causa posible es que  somos tan arrogantes, pero estamos tratando de mantenerlo como un familia, y el rooster ya es bastante grande para mí, supongo, en un buen día, con una demostración de primera clase y un período apropiado puede ser posible.Incluso si recibimos gran cantidad de demos, yo siempre respondo a algunosde ellos, eso es algo importante para mí, no, por supuesto, hablando de spam jaja
6.-Si no fueras productor o gestor de la etiqueta ¿qué te gustaría hacer?
no puedo ni siquiera pensar en vivir mi vida sin música, es como tener una enfermedad en la pierna izquierda.

8 -. ¿Qué artistas crees que están haciendo buena música ahora mismo?

Por desgracia, no tanto, pero estoy seguro que muchos son increíbles,  Internet es una jungla y es difícil estar al tanto de todo, digamos que mi buen amigo Kamei :)
10.-Qué sigue para Freak You en este año? ¿Y qué podemos esperar de On The Fruit Records?
En puerta algunos remixes próximos de vez en cuando, un disco está en camino, con algunos featurings grandes, cruzó los dedos para terminar esto en breve :)
11.-Y bien? Algo que se puede decir a nuestros seguidores, o algo que se puede decir acerca de nuestro blog:
En primer lugar gracias, sé que son buenos seguidores de nuestra música y es tan cool tener retroalimentación y la gente que se preocupa. hemos puesto tanto esfuerzo de lo que hacemos que las palabras son tan refrescante para nosotros, la gente no debe olvidar esto, todos los artistas necesitan retroalimentación y apoyo, cuando te gusta algo lo digo, incluso si a ustedes no le gusta, pero por favor, diganlo! estamos cerca de perder esto en Internet, a fin de mantener la sinceridad y el contacto directo, no es porque un montón de grandes nombres los han ignorado una vez todo el mundo lo hará.
